Are you still engaged, or slowly checking out? The STAY Engagement & Quiet-Quitting Risk Scanner is a free online self-reflection tool for young people aged 18–28 in their first job, internship, traineeship or volunteering role. It helps you notice early signs of disengagement before they turn into quiet quitting.

What is quiet quitting?
Quiet quitting means staying in a role while mentally stepping back: doing only the minimum, avoiding feedback, losing interest in ideas and the team. It rarely happens overnight. It builds up through small signals that are easy to miss. The scanner makes those signals visible.
How it works
The scanner takes you through 32 short statements across eight areas of working life:
- Role clarity: do you know what is expected of you?
- Feedback: do you get useful feedback, and do you ask for it?
- Workload: is the amount of work manageable?
- Autonomy: do you have a say in how you work?
- Boundaries: can you separate work from the rest of your life?
- Recognition: is your effort noticed?
- Belonging: do you feel part of the team?
- Meaning: does your work matter to you?
After that, you check eight early-warning signals, such as counting the minutes until the end of the day or shifting from “we” to “they” when you talk about your team.
What you get
- A radar chart showing your profile across all eight areas
- A rating for each area: Healthy, Watch or At risk
- Three priority recommendations, each with one concrete next step, based on exercises from the STAY Handbook
- A downloadable PDF with your results and a personal “My STAY plan” section. You can add your name or stay anonymous.
The scanner is available in English, Croatian, Spanish and Icelandic, and you can switch language at any point without losing your answers.
Built on research
The statements are original but draw on established research on work engagement and motivation, including Self-Determination Theory, the Job Demands–Resources model, psychological safety and effort–reward imbalance, as well as recent studies on quiet quitting.
Important: the scanner is a self-reflection tool, not a psychological or clinical assessment. If your results point to serious strain, the tool directs you to sources of support.
For youth workers and employers
Youth workers can use the scanner as a conversation starter in one-to-one coaching or group sessions. Employers and mentors can use it to open honest conversations with young staff and volunteers about workload, feedback and recognition. The recommendations link directly to methods in the STAY Handbook, available free at stay-project.eu.
